Essence Fest 2026 Lineup Announced
Cardi B, Patti LaBelle, Brandy, and Monica are headlining the Essence Festival 2026 in New Orleans, solidifying the festival's focus on women in urban music.
The Essence Festival's return to New Orleans from July 3-5, 2026, is expected to generate record-breaking revenue for the city. Local businesses are preparing for high demand, especially for premium accommodations. The festival is a vital economic engine, supporting thousands of jobs and fostering community reinvestment in the area. Despite the excitement, the festival's parent company, Sundial Media Group, reportedly owes $406,000 to the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center from last year. A local production company also claims it is owed over $1 million. These debts have raised concerns among local leaders and businesses that rely on the festival's economic impact. The Essence Festival typically draws almost half a million visitors and generates around $300 million in economic activity. While the festival is marketed as a celebration of Black culture, some feel the economic benefits don't always reach the local Black community. The average attendee spends around $3,000, which can be two months' income for a Black New Orleanian.
