Rybakina is the first woman representing Kazakhstan to win the Australian Open. She previously won Wimbledon in 2022. Sabalenka was playing in her first Australian Open final and was seeking her second major title. She won the Australian Open in 2023. Rybakina's victory came after defeating three former Grand Slam champions in the earlier rounds: Iga Swiatek, Jelena Ostapenko and Victoria Azarenka.
