Hyrox fitness trend rises
Hyrox — a format that pairs running with functional workout stations — is surging on social feeds and being framed as a global fitness craze rather than just another CrossFit offshoot. (x.com)
Hyrox has moved from a niche race format to a mainstream gym goal, with classes, sold-out events and social clips pushing it into the broader fitness market. (hyrox.com) The format is simple and standardized: competitors run 1 kilometer, then complete one workout station, and repeat that eight times indoors. The stations include SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmer’s carry, sandbag lunges and wall balls. (hyrox.com) Hyrox says that same format is used worldwide, with global leaderboards and a season-ending world championship. The company’s history page says it launched in Germany in 2017 and grew to races in more than 11 countries and 30 cities. (hyrox.com, hyrox.com) The pitch is narrower than CrossFit’s. CrossFit is a training methodology and gym affiliation system, while Hyrox is a repeatable race product that gyms can train people for and athletes can compare across cities and seasons. (crossfit.com, hyrox.com) That structure has helped Hyrox spread through gyms as well as events. Hyrox says its accredited training clubs can market under the brand and get programming, class tutorials and marketing tools through its Performance Hub. (hyrox.com) The social-media lift has shown up in booking data. ClassPass said searches for Hyrox classes jumped 506 percent globally in 2025 and bookings rose 432 percent year over year. (classpass.com, inc.com) Media companies and sponsors have started treating it as a business, not just a workout fad. CNBC reported in May 2025 that Hyrox was on track for about $140 million in revenue from ticket sales, affiliate gym memberships and merchandise. (cnbc.com) Big brands have followed. Puma announced a global partnership with Hyrox in June 2024, making it the official apparel and footwear partner for all Hyrox races from 2024 to 2027. (about.puma.com) The race calendar has also become more formal. Hyrox says its world championships were held in Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom and France from 2019 through 2025, and the 2026 championships are scheduled for Stockholm on June 18 to June 21. (hyrox.com) At the elite end, Hyrox added a more structured Major-race system for the 2024-25 season, with stops in Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Las Vegas and Glasgow plus a last-chance qualifier. That gave the sport a clearer pro circuit while keeping mass-participation entry open for regular racers. (runningindustryalliance.com, hyrox.com) The appeal is that the movements are demanding without being highly technical. ABC News in Australia reported that Hyrox sits inside the broader “hybrid training” trend, where people combine endurance running with strength work in the gym. (abc.net.au) That mix helps explain why Hyrox now gets framed as its own category. It is not replacing CrossFit, but it has built a standardized race, a training-club network and a world-championship ladder that give a fast-growing fitness trend a finish line.
