TECNO to Unveil AI-Powered Phone
Tech brand TECNO is set to unveil its new flagship CAMON 50 smartphone series at MWC 2026 in Barcelona. The launch will focus on the phone's AI-driven imaging capabilities and a broader ecosystem of AI products.
TECNO's focus on AI-powered imaging represents a significant step in the camera-centric CAMON series, which began its journey in 2015 with a focus on delivering strong camera performance in the mid-range market. Early models saw a steady increase in megapixel count and the introduction of more lenses, laying the groundwork for more advanced computational photography. The brand's push into AI became more prominent with features like AI Beautification, Super Night Mode, and Eye-Tracking Autofocus in models preceding the CAMON 30 series. This evolution continued with the CAMON 30 and 40 series, which introduced more sophisticated AI tools such as AI-powered image generation, AI Eraser, and AI-powered bokeh and skin retouching. A key development in TECNO's AI imaging is the "Universal Tone" technology, first unveiled in 2023. This AI-powered technology was developed to more accurately capture the diverse range of human skin tones by building a comprehensive database. Ahead of MWC 2025, TECNO announced an upgrade to this technology, expanding its skin tone database from 268 to 372 patches for even more precise color reproduction. The upcoming CAMON 50 series is set to feature flagship Sony hardware combined with new AI functionalities like "Super-Zoom FlashSnap" for high-speed capture and "AI Auto Zoom" for intelligent subject framing. This positions TECNO to compete with other brands that are increasingly leveraging AI in their cameras, such as Google's AI-driven editing features and Samsung's AI-powered scene optimization. The new smartphone is part of a larger AI ecosystem strategy. This includes the brand's MEGABOOK laptops, AI-enhanced smart wearables, and the upgraded OneLeap platform for seamless cross-device data transfer and management. TECNO is also expanding its AI footprint into new form factors. The company has unveiled AI Glasses that feature voice control, real-time translation, and smart notifications. The Pro model includes an AR display for enhanced navigation and information overlays. The launch event at MWC 2026 will also mark the official debut of a partnership with Tonino Lamborghini. This collaboration is expected to result in co-created devices, including a special edition of the POVA smartphone and a gaming mini-PC, blending TECNO's technology with the iconic design of the Italian brand.
