YC Launches AI for Fraud Detection

Y Combinator has launched Mousecat.ai, a startup that uses AI agents to detect fraud and scale human analysis. The company is targeting the fintech security space, offering a way for companies to automate complex investigation workflows.

The founding team of Mousecat.ai brings experience from major tech and crypto companies. CEO Nick Aldridge was a Principal Engineer at Amazon Web Services, where he had a hand in products like Bedrock Knowledge Bases and AgentCore, while CTO Joseph McAllister focused on machine learning infrastructure and fraud detection models during his four years at Coinbase. McAllister also has prior startup experience, having sold his first company, Roo Storage, while he was still a student at Cornell University. Mousecat.ai's platform moves beyond simple alert summarization by using AI agents that conduct end-to-end investigations. These agents can analyze unstructured data, draw connections between different data sources, and even backtest new rules to mitigate emerging fraud trends. The system is designed to integrate with a company's existing data infrastructure, such as Databricks and Snowflake, and provides a full audit log for its decisions. The startup is entering a rapidly growing market, with the AI in fintech sector estimated at $22.5 billion in 2023 and projected to reach $79.4 billion by 2030. The fraud detection segment, in particular, is a major driver of this growth, as financial institutions increasingly adopt AI to combat sophisticated cyber threats. North America is currently the largest market for AI in fraud detection, accounting for a significant portion of the global revenue. Y Combinator has been notably active in the fintech space, participating in 151 deals in 2025, a significant increase from the previous year. The accelerator's portfolio includes a number of other AI-driven fintech companies, signaling a strategic focus on this sector. In a recent move, YC also announced that its startups can now receive their funding in stablecoins, further embracing the evolution of financial technology.
