Tune Protect Malaysia said on April 7 that it is adopting Akur8’s pricing platform to overhaul how it prices general insurance products. (tuneprotect.com) The insurer is the Malaysian general insurance subsidiary of Tune Protect Group Berhad, and it said the software will be used across its property and casualty business. Akur8 said the platform is built for insurers and uses machine learning to speed up pricing work. (tuneprotect.com) Insurance pricing is the process carriers use to decide what premium to charge for a risk, from a motor policy to a fire policy. Akur8 sells software that helps actuaries test more rating variables, compare model outputs, and replace parts of a spreadsheet-heavy workflow with a cloud platform. (akur8.com 1) (akur8.com 2) Tune Protect said Akur8’s Risk module will streamline model selection and its Rate module could simplify post-model analysis and implementation studies. Hans-Joachim Zimmermann, Tune Protect Malaysia’s appointed representative, said the system could replace a “time-consuming spreadsheet-based approach.” (tuneprotect.com) The move comes as Tune Protect has been pushing deeper into digital distribution and general insurance lines in Malaysia. Its consumer site markets products including motor, travel and personal accident cover, while its 2024 audited financial statements describe Tune Insurance Malaysia Berhad’s principal activity as underwriting general insurance business. (tuneprotect.com 1) (tuneprotect.com 2) Pricing discipline has become more important for the group as it tries to improve profitability in motor and other segments. In its May 2024 quarterly update, Tune Protect said it was focusing on profitable segments, and in its August 2025 results it said motor growth would target preferred segments and regions after loss-ratio improvements. (tuneprotect.com 1) (tuneprotect.com 2) Akur8 has been expanding its pitch to insurers as a pricing and reserving software provider with a growing global footprint. On its website, the company says it serves more than 300 insurance companies in more than 40 countries, and its homepage now says more than 350 insurers worldwide use the platform. (akur8.com) (akur8.com) That customer growth has come with a broader product push. Akur8 said in January 2026 that it acquired Matrisk and folded its filing-search and market-intelligence tools into a new product called Akur8 Discover, adding regulatory and competitor-rate analysis to its pricing stack. (akur8.com) For Tune Protect, the immediate change is narrower: faster pricing cycles, more traceable model logic, and fewer manual steps in the actuarial process. For Akur8, it is another insurer client in Southeast Asia as carriers keep buying software that promises quicker and more explainable pricing decisions. (tuneprotect.com) (akur8.com)
