Microsoft expanded the list of games in its Xbox Handheld Compatibility program on May 16, adding 27 titles flagged for supported gaming handhelds on its Xbox website. The update applies to the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, the Windows-based handhelds Microsoft markets with Asus, according to Xbox support and product pages. (xbox.com) The company’s compatibility page says the program is meant to show “when a game will work” on a compatible handheld and whether it is handheld optimized, mostly compatible, unsupported or not yet tested. The page also says Microsoft is “constantly testing” and that more games will be added over time. (news.xbox.com) ### Which games were added to the handheld-compatible list? Xbox’s compatibility page now shows 27 games in its featured handheld-compatible lineup. The titles visible on the page include Roblox - Windows, Minecraft for Windows, MOUSE: P.I. For Hire, Vampire Crawlers: The Turbo, Wildcard from Vampire Survivors, Cup Heroes, Hades II, Alan Wake Coloring Book, Roadside Research (Game Preview), Fallout Shelter, Cuphead, Blair Witch, Sea of Thieves: 2026 Edition, Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, Stardew Valley, Call of Duty, Baldur’s Gate 3, REPLACED, Grounded 2 and DAVE THE DIVER. Baldur’s Gate 3 and REPLACED were among the most visible additions highlighted by outside coverage of the update on Saturday. (xbox.com) Microsoft’s own page does not publish a changelog for the compatibility list, but it does now display both games among the handheld-supported titles. ### What does Microsoft say the compatibility labels actually mean? Xbox says players should look for checkmarks in the Xbox app while browsing and shopping for games on supported handhelds. The company defines “Handheld optimized” as titles that should launch and play without users needing to tweak settings, while “Mostly compatible” means minor adjustments may be required. “Unsupported” means the game is not supported, and “Not tested” means Microsoft has not yet evaluated it, according to the compatibility page. (xbox.com) The same page adds a second label called Windows Performance Fit. Xbox says games marked “This game should play well” typically run at 30 frames per second or better on the device, while games marked “This game should play great” are expected to perform around 60 frames per second or better. (xbox.com) ### How do these handhelds fit into Xbox’s broader PC strategy? Microsoft says the ROG Xbox Ally devices bring together “the best of ROG and Xbox” in a handheld built around Windows. Xbox support pages say users can access supported games from Xbox and other PC storefronts, stream games with cloud gaming, or play installed console games remotely. (xbox.com) Xbox’s product page also says Xbox Play Anywhere titles can carry saves, add-ons and achievements across console, PC and supported handhelds. Xbox mode, described on Microsoft’s support site as the device’s full-screen experience, is designed to make Windows easier to navigate with controller inputs and to improve handheld performance. (xbox.com) The support page says users enter the Xbox app after setup and can move between apps by holding the Xbox button or swiping up from the bottom of the screen. ### Where can players check whether a game is supported? Microsoft directs players to the Xbox app and to its handheld compatibility page to see whether a game is supported on handhelds. The company also maintains a browse page for “handheld optimized” games, which it describes as titles that “just work” for play on the go. (support.xbox.com) Xbox’s support materials also note that if a game runs on Windows and comes from a supported PC storefront, it can be played natively on the ROG Xbox Ally. If a game is only available on console and is not part of Xbox Play Anywhere, Microsoft says players can still use cloud gaming or remote play on the handheld. (support.xbox.com) ### What comes next from Xbox? Xbox Wire said on March 30 that the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 will air on Sunday, June 7, at 10 a.m. Pacific time, followed immediately by a Gears of War: E-Day Direct. Joe Skrebels, Xbox Wire’s editor-in-chief, wrote that the showcase will include first gameplay looks and updates from Xbox first-party studios and third-party partners. (xbox.com) Microsoft’s handheld pages say the compatibility program will keep expanding as testing continues. For players tracking the next official update, the company’s handheld compatibility page and Xbox app are the places where new support labels appear first, while the June 7 showcase is the next scheduled Xbox event on the calendar.
