EmpresasdeMurcia funds 180 new plazas

- Murcia’s regional government said on May 13 it had invested €800,000 to open free classrooms for two-year-olds in nine public schools. - The works add 180 places for the 2026-27 school year, lifting Murcia’s free 0-3 offer above 9,000 places, officials said. - The school calendar is due in the regional gazette, with Infant and Primary classes starting Sept. 8.

Murcia’s regional government said on May 13 it had spent 800,000 euros to adapt space in nine public schools for new free classrooms for children aged 2 to 3. The works, which officials said are complete in almost all of the schools, will add 180 places for the 2026-27 academic year. Education councillor Víctor Marín announced the expansion during a visit to CEIP Nuestra Señora de la Arrixaca in Murcia, one of the schools receiving a new classroom. The same appearance was also used to set out the start dates for the next school year in the Region of Murcia. ### Which schools are getting the new 2-3 year classrooms? Nine public schools are due to have the new classrooms next school year, according to the regional government. The list includes Nuestra Señora de la Arrixaca and Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente in Murcia, Francisco Caparrós in Mazarrón, Ricardo Campillo in Santomera, Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza in Calasparra, Florentino Bayona in Mula, Nuestra Señora del Carmen in Alguazas, Nuestra Señora de los Remedios in Albudeite and San Agustín in Ojós. (carm.es) At CEIP Nuestra Señora de la Arrixaca alone, the regional government said it invested more than 95,000 euros. The work there included children’s bathrooms and changing areas, patio upgrades, new flooring, special paint, replacement doors and windows, finger-protection safety systems and classroom materials, according to the official release. (carm.es) ### How big is the increase in places? The 180 new places are part of a broader increase of 300 places in Murcia’s 0-3 offer for 2026-27, the regional government said. Officials said the region will offer more than 9,000 free places in the first cycle of early childhood education next year. (carm.es) Víctor Marín said the number of free 0-3 places had risen from 600 in the 2022-23 school year to more than 8,400 in recent years. He said the expansion was intended to provide more free services for families, support work-life balance and extend first-cycle early childhood education across the region. (carm.es) ### Who is paying for the work? European recovery funds are paying for part of the project, the regional government said. The official statement said the school adaptation works are financed in part through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. The 800,000-euro figure cited by the government covers the nine-school package rather than a single site. (carm.es) Regional and local reports published on May 13 repeated the same total and said the work was aimed at preparing the schools before the start of the next academic year. ### When do classes start in September? (carm.es) Sept. 8, 2026 is the announced start date for Infant, Primary and Special Education in Murcia, according to the regional government and a labor-union post on the education department’s human-resources site. ESO, Bachillerato and vocational training were scheduled to begin on Sept. 10, 2026, with those stages ending on June 21, 2027. Infant and Primary are due to run until June 22, 2027. (carm.es) Víctor Marín said the full school calendar would be published “próximamente” in the Boletín Oficial de la Región de Murcia, or BORM. As of the material reviewed, the dates had been announced publicly but were still awaiting that formal publication. ### What happens next for families and schools? (carm.es) The 2026-27 school year will open with the new classrooms already folded into Murcia’s free early-years offer, if the works remain on schedule as the government said. The next formal step is publication of the school calendar in the BORM, followed by the Sept. 8 start for Infant and Primary and the Sept. 10 start for ESO, Bachillerato and vocational training.
