Harry Potter TV Casting News

The *Harry Potter* TV adaptation confirmed new student castings for all four houses — Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw. The announcements are generating early buzz and speculation about the show's direction as it prepares to reimagine the beloved franchise.

The new adaptation is helmed by showrunner Francesca Gardiner, known for her work on "Succession" and "His Dark Materials," and director Mark Mylod, also of "Succession" and "Game of Thrones" fame. The production is a collaboration between HBO, Warner Bros. Television, Brontë Film and TV, and Heyday Films. J.K. Rowling is serving as an executive producer for the series, a decision that has drawn some controversy due to her public statements on transgender issues. While Rowling is not a writer for the show, she has worked closely with the writing team and has expressed her approval of the first two episodes' scripts. HBO executives have stated that her personal views will not influence the content of the series. The central trio will be portrayed by Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. The wider cast includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape. The series is planned as a decade-long project, with the goal of adapting each of the seven books into a full season. Production for the first season began in July 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in England, the same studio used for the original films. Among the newly announced student cast are Orson Matthews as Gryffindor Quidditch captain Oliver Wood, India Moon as Hufflepuff's Hannah Abbott, and Anjula Murali as Ravenclaw's Padma Patil. The Slytherin house will feature Oliver Croft as Quidditch captain Marcus Flint and Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy. The show is scheduled to premiere in early 2027 and will air on HBO. The first season is set to adapt the entirety of the first book, *Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone*.
