Android closes item‑tracking gap

Android introduced Find Hub luggage tracking capabilities that put item tracking closer to Apple’s ecosystem, letting travelers track checked bags and share precise locations with airlines and partners. At the same time Google is simplifying real‑time location sharing on Android with a quick‑access button, tightening the baseline UX for location services. ( )

Google rolled the Find Hub “share item location” capability into its March 3, 2026 Android feature drop, adding airline-facing tools and a Messages integration as part of that update. (blog.google) Find Hub creates a unique, encrypted web link for a tracked item that includes the decryption key and can be opened on desktop or mobile; passengers can revoke sharing and links are designed to expire automatically. (support.google.com) Google’s initial partner roster published in rollout summaries lists 11 carriers — A Jet, Air India, Austrian, Brussels, China Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City, Saudia, Scandinavian Airlines, SWISS and Turkish — while additional majors including British Airways, Qantas, Cathay Pacific and Virgin Atlantic have been reported as early adopters. (jetstream.blog) Airline operations tooling followed quickly: SITA announced integration of Find Hub’s passenger-shared locations into its WorldTracer baggage-recovery system in early March 2026, and WorldTracer is used by more than 500 airlines across roughly 2,800 airports. (sita.aero) Separately, Google began a wider rollout of real-time location sharing inside Google Messages — surfaced as a prominent “Real-time Location” pill with duration controls (1 hour, Today only, Until you turn this off, or Custom) — appearing in stable and beta builds around March 19, 2026. (9to5google.com) That combination puts Find Hub’s networked Bluetooth tracker feeds into both airline recovery workflows and in‑chat live maps for users, bringing Android closer to parity with Apple’s airline-sharing capabilities that debuted last year.
