The study, led by Jean Wactawski-Wende, followed 6,000 women aged 63 to 99. Grip strength was a key indicator, with stronger grips correlating to higher survival rates. Women in the highest quartile of grip strength had a notably reduced risk of mortality. This suggests targeted strength training could be beneficial. Researchers adjusted for factors like age, race, and BMI to isolate muscle strength's impact. The findings underscore the importance of maintaining physical fitness as women age.
