Microsoft Actively Recruiting New Grads in India
Despite a challenging US hiring market for new graduates, Microsoft is actively recruiting freshers for Software Engineer roles in Hyderabad, India. The positions, open to those with a Bachelor's in Computer Science, offer salaries up to ₹16 LPA. This highlights a broader trend of major tech companies expanding global talent pipelines while pulling back on entry-level hiring in the United States.
Microsoft's Hyderabad campus, its largest research and development center outside of its US headquarters, is a key player in the company's AI-first strategy. The center, established in 1998, is instrumental in developing next-generation AI products and houses more than half of Microsoft's 20,000+ employees in India. This hiring initiative is part of a larger trend among tech giants like Google, Amazon, and Uber, who are also expanding their teams in India. A recent survey revealed that 52% of tech professionals in the US and India anticipate their companies will increase hiring in India in 2026, signaling a structural shift in the global workforce. One of the drivers for this shift is the increasing difficulty and cost associated with H-1B visas for bringing international talent to the United States. Consequently, for every H-1B visa rejection, U.S. companies are estimated to hire between 0.4 and 0.9 employees abroad, with many of these roles being established in India. While the base salary for these new graduate roles is around ₹12-16 lakhs, the total compensation package, including stock options and bonuses, can be significantly higher. Data from various profiles show average new grad salaries at Microsoft Hyderabad reaching approximately ₹25.5 lakhs annually. This contrasts sharply with the current U.S. market, where entry-level tech hiring has seen a significant downturn. Recent computer engineering and computer science graduates in the U.S. are experiencing unemployment rates of 7.5% and 6.1% respectively, which is higher than the overall average for recent graduates. The expansion in India is not limited to call centers or basic support. The majority of open roles at major US tech companies in India are for mid-level and senior positions, with a strong focus on specialized fields like artificial intelligence, machine learning, cloud computing, and cybersecurity.
