FIFA's AI Backbone for World Cup 2026
FIFA’s 2026 World Cup will be underpinned by an AI-driven platform developed with Lenovo. The platform integrates predictive analytics for player tracking, referee assignment, logistics, and fan engagement, showcasing scalable, production-grade sports analytics.
FIFA's AI integration for the 2026 World Cup extends beyond predictive analytics, featuring "Football AI Pro," a generative AI assistant for all 48 teams. This tool analyzes millions of FIFA data points to provide insights via text, video, graphs, and 3D visualizations in multiple languages. It aims to level the playing field by offering advanced analytics to teams regardless of their financial resources. Lenovo, FIFA's official technology partner, is providing AI-enabled devices, infrastructure, and services for the tournament. These include AI-powered stabilization software for referee camera footage and AI-driven systems for officiating, team analysis, and event operations. Digital twins of venues will also be used to monitor situations around stadiums in real time. AI-enabled 3D player avatars will enhance semi-automated offside technology, with digital scans capturing precise body dimensions. These models will be integrated into broadcasts, offering fans a more realistic view of VAR decisions. The AI platform also monitors fan sentiment in real-time by capturing and evaluating reactions from social media and online sources.
