New Eco-Friendly Paints Launched for Florida Climate
PROSOCO has released new sustainable coatings ideal for Florida's humid climate. The lineup includes a breathable, water-repellent paint for masonry that helps avoid trapped moisture and an eco-friendly, water-based anti-graffiti coating for urban projects.
The architectural coatings are a response to a growing demand for sustainable building materials in Florida, a market that has seen a 40% rise in the use of such materials since 2020. This trend is driven by the state's specific environmental challenges, including high humidity and frequent storms, which necessitate resilient and eco-friendly construction choices. The breathable masonry paint directly addresses a core problem in humid climates: trapped moisture. Conventional paints can seal water vapor within masonry, leading to blistering, peeling, and the growth of mold and mildew. A vapor-permeable coating allows moisture to escape, which is critical for maintaining the structural integrity and appearance of buildings, particularly those with solid wall construction. PROSOCO's Breathable Masonry Coating II (BMC II) is a silicone emulsion formulation, which enhances its resistance to weathering from UV rays and moisture. This type of paint creates a durable, long-lasting finish without needing a separate primer, offering both protection and a streamlined application process for residential projects. The anti-graffiti product, Sacrificial Coating SC-1, is a water-based wax polymer. It creates a clear barrier that prevents spray paint and ink from staining the surface. When graffiti occurs, the coating and the vandalism are removed together using hot water, avoiding harsh chemical strippers that can damage underlying materials and the environment. This launch aligns with a broader shift in the U.S. construction industry towards materials with lower life-cycle costs and reduced environmental impact. The U.S. sustainable building materials market was valued at $82 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow, indicating a strong client preference for the types of green-certified products PROSOCO is offering. With a history dating back to 1939, PROSOCO has a reputation for tackling complex architectural challenges. The company has been involved in high-profile restoration projects, including work on the U.S. Capitol and the Pentagon after the September 11 attacks, underscoring their expertise in creating specialized, high-performance building products.
