Mel Brooks' Producers Gets West End Team

Mel Brooks' "The Producers" has confirmed its full creative team ahead of its transfer to London's Garrick Theatre. Following a successful run at the Menier Chocolate Factory, the transfer "signals the show's enduring popularity and the strength of its production team."

- The musical is based on Mel Brooks' 1967 film of the same name, which was his directorial debut and won him an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. - The original 2001 Broadway production was a phenomenal success, winning a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards, a record that still stands. It starred Nathan Lane as Max Bialystock and Matthew Broderick as Leo Bloom. - The show first opened in London's West End in 2004 at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, where it ran for over two years. That production won the Olivier Award for Best New Musical, with Nathan Lane reprising his role as Max. - The new production is directed by Patrick Marber, a Tony Award-winning director known for his work on "Leopoldstadt". The cast is led by Andy Nyman as Max Bialystock and Marc Antolin as Leo Bloom. - A film adaptation of the musical was released in 2005, also directed by Susan Stroman, who directed the original Broadway show. It brought back original Broadway stars Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, with Uma Thurman and Will Ferrell joining the cast. - The Garrick Theatre, the new home for the production, is a historic West End venue that opened in 1889 and is named after the famous actor David Garrick.
