Wemby goes off, Spurs improve

Victor Wembanyama is heating up – he just exploded for 29 points on 9-13 shooting, with 8 rebounds, 2 steals, and 4 blocks 3. The Spurs are 15-1 in their last 16 games – is this a sign of things to come for the playoffs?

Wembanyama, nicknamed "Wemby" and "the Alien," was drafted first overall by the Spurs in 2023. In his rookie season, he unanimously won Rookie of the Year, was named to the All-Defensive First Team, and led the NBA in blocks. He also secured two NBA All-Star selections in 2025 and 2026. The Spurs had an 11-game winning streak in February, becoming the first team in NBA history to score at least 110 points in every game during a month with at least 10 games. That streak was snapped by the Knicks on March 1st. During the winning streak, the Spurs defeated teams such as the Thunder, Bucks, and Cavaliers. As of late February, the Spurs' playoff odds jumped, giving them a high chance to make the postseason. If the season ended then, they would have been the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. Some analysts believe the Spurs are ahead of schedule in their rebuild. Wembanyama's stellar play includes averaging 21.9 points, 11.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 4.5 blocks, and 1.2 steals since the All-Star break. In his rookie season, Wembanyama became the first rookie in NBA history to surpass 1,500 points, 250 assists, and 250 blocks. He also played for the French national team, winning a silver medal at the 2024 Olympics.
