New European Bauhaus Prizes Open for Applications
The European Commission is now accepting applications for the sixth edition of the New European Bauhaus (NEB) Prizes. The awards celebrate projects that integrate sustainability, inclusivity, and aesthetics. A special category, the NEB Boost, will target initiatives in smaller municipalities.
- The New European Bauhaus initiative was launched by the European Commission in 2020 as the "soul" of the European Green Deal, aiming to connect sustainability goals with art, culture, and quality of life. - For the 2026 prizes, 13 winners will receive up to €20,000 each, with an additional 14 runners-up receiving €5,000. The associated NEB Boost for smaller municipalities will award 20 winners €30,000 each. - The 2026 edition has expanded its global reach, opening eligibility to participants from Moldova and adding a dedicated international track for projects from Brazil and Japan. - A new special prize for 'Water Resilience' has been introduced for 2026, awarding €20,000 to a project that effectively addresses water-related challenges. - Since the prizes were established, there have been over 5,700 applications, with 94 winners sharing more than €2 million in prize money through 2025. - In the previous 2025 edition, the prizes had a special focus on affordable and sustainable housing solutions, awarding 22 projects and concepts. - The application deadline for the 2026 prizes is March 17, 2026, with finalists to be announced during the New European Bauhaus Festival from June 9-13. - In a related initiative, the Commission launched a competition for European design students to create the first official trophy for the New European Bauhaus Prizes, to be awarded at the September 2026 ceremony.
