Ubicquia Raises $106M for Smart City Infrastructure
Smart infrastructure firm Ubicquia has secured $106 million in a Series D funding round. The company plans to use the capital to scale its AI-enabled platform, which provides analytics and management for smart streetlights, utilities, and communication networks. The funding is aimed at accelerating product development and global expansion.
- The Series D funding round was co-led by 67 Capital and Marunouchi Innovation Partners, with participation from existing investors including Hamilton Lane, ClearSky, and strategic partner Sercomm. - Ubicquia's technology platform, UbiVu, processes billions of data sets daily to provide real-time insights into grid performance and power quality. This is part of the company's strategy to shift towards an "infrastructure-as-a-service" model with predictable recurring revenue. - The company's hardware includes the UbiCell controller, which retrofits existing streetlights, and the UbiScout, an AI-powered video accessory that enables traffic and pedestrian analytics. These devices turn streetlights into nodes for monitoring urban environments. - Ubicquia serves more than 1,000 customers, including major utilities and municipalities, across the United States, Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East. - To expand its capabilities, Ubicquia previously acquired CityIQ, a smart city platform focused on public safety and traffic efficiency, from GE Current. This acquisition included CityIQ's technology, patents, and contracts with cities such as San Diego and Atlanta. - The company competes in a diverse market that includes major infrastructure and telecommunications companies like Siemens, AT&T, and Verizon, as well as specialized smart lighting firms.
