Suns Shut Down Hornets Offense

The Phoenix Suns defeated the Charlotte Hornets 111-99, shutting down one of the NBA's most potent offenses. The Suns' defensive effort was the focal point as they limited Charlotte's scoring opportunities and controlled the tempo with timely scoring runs and clutch defensive stops that frustrated the Hornets' shooters.

The Suns' victory snapped the Hornets' impressive 10-game road winning streak, which was the longest in the NBA since the 2019-20 Los Angeles Lakers. Charlotte had not lost on the road since January 17th against the Golden State Warriors. This loss also marked the Hornets' second consecutive defeat after a strong 16-4 stretch in their previous 20 games. Phoenix's defensive effort was particularly noteworthy as they were playing without key defensive players Dillon Brooks and Mark Williams due to injuries. Despite being shorthanded, the Suns held the Hornets to 99 points, well below their season average. Charlotte's offense, which has been one of the most potent in the league, shot just 42% from the field. The defensive pressure from Phoenix was evident in the second half, as they held the Hornets to just 41 points. The Suns' defense was aggressive and active, forcing turnovers and disrupting Charlotte's offensive rhythm. This defensive intensity was a key factor in the Suns pulling away for the win, particularly during a 12-2 run in the fourth quarter that sealed the game. Individually, Devin Booker led the Suns with 30 points and 10 assists, and he was a perfect 15-for-15 from the free-throw line. For the Hornets, LaMelo Ball scored 22 points but did not attempt a single free throw, a point of frustration for Charlotte. This win was a significant one for the Suns, as it pushed them past their win total from the previous season. It was a crucial victory as they headed into a six-game road trip. The Hornets, on the other hand, will look to bounce back as they continue their road trip with a game against the Portland Trail Blazers. For the Suns, their lengthy road trip will begin with a matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks.
