Rumor: NVIDIA & Intel x86 CPU Collab?

Rumors suggest NVIDIA may unveil an x86 CPU co-developed with Intel at GTC 2026, potentially disrupting the CPU market.

The rumored collaboration could see Intel manufacturing x86 CPUs customized for NVIDIA's AI infrastructure. For personal computing, Intel might produce x86 SoCs integrating NVIDIA RTX GPU chiplets. This would allow PCs to combine Intel CPUs with NVIDIA's graphics. NVIDIA's potential move into the x86 CPU market marks a shift, as they've historically focused on GPUs and ARM-based processors. The partnership aims to fuse NVIDIA's AI and accelerated computing with Intel's CPU technology. NVIDIA is investing $5 billion into Intel as part of this collaboration. Some analysts believe NVIDIA might showcase this x86 CPU at GTC 2026, which starts March 16. However, Intel's CFO has suggested the products are still a couple of years away. A demonstration of the architecture or a roadmap reveal is still possible. This collaboration could give NVIDIA a clearer path into the x86 market, both for data centers and PCs. It also potentially expands NVIDIA's reach by making its CUDA platform more accessible. The partnership may pressure cloud-specific silicon strategies that aren't CUDA-compatible. GTC 2026 is expected to reveal NVIDIA's next-gen GPUs, like Rubin, and a new Vera CPU. These advancements promise performance gains and aim to lower AI adoption barriers. The conference may also offer a glimpse into the 2028 Feynman architecture.
