Art Library Reopens April 1
The New Art Gallery announced its Art Library reopens April 1 with roughly 5,000 books and artist publications — the post (today) flags a major research resource for visual artists and makers post. Great for recipe‑book meets design research: lots of print material to inspire plating and interiors.
The Art Library is located on the mezzanine of The New Art Gallery Walsall (go.walsall.gov.uk). It operates as a free public reference resource with internet access and on-site staff support, according to the gallery’s library page (thenewartgallerywalsall.org.uk). The reopening follows a refurbishment that added new flooring, secondary glazing to reduce heat loss, and a rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) array as part of broader environmental upgrades (go.walsall.gov.uk). Walsall Council’s press release quotes Councillor Gary Flint highlighting the library’s role in supporting learning, creativity and research in the borough (go.walsall.gov.uk). The council set revised opening hours for the building—Monday closed, Tuesday–Saturday 10:00–16:30 and Sunday 11:00–16:00—and specifies the Art Library itself will operate Tuesday–Friday 10:00–16:00 (go.walsall.gov.uk). The library’s return coincides with the gallery’s current programme, including the “Impressions: Contemporary Printmaking” display running through 12 April 2026, providing immediate research context for print-focused enquiries (thenewartgallerywalsall.org.uk).
