Mike Sommerfeld enters the 2026 contest as the reigning Arnold Classic Physique champion, having won his first title at the event in 2025. This victory solidified his position as a top contender in the post-Chris Bumstead era of the division. His preparation follows a landmark achievement at the 2024 Mr. Olympia, where he secured a second-place finish in the Classic Physique division. This was a significant jump from his 7th place finish in 2021 and 5th place in 2022, showcasing his consistent improvement on the sport's biggest stage. The German bodybuilder, known as "Mike the Badass," began his pro career in the 212 division in 2019. After a 13th place finish, he switched to the Classic Physique division just a week later and immediately earned a second-place spot, cementing the change as a pivotal career move.
