OpenAI Inks Classified Deal with DOW
OpenAI has reached an agreement to deploy its AI models on classified networks within DOW. The deal includes new "guardrails" for sensitive environments and shows major corporations are increasingly willing to integrate advanced AI into their most secure operations.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy at Dow Jones to integrate artificial intelligence into its core business, particularly within its Risk & Compliance division. The company has already rolled out an AI-powered platform named "Dow Jones Integrity Check" to automate investigative due diligence reports for its clients. This tool can generate a report in as little as five minutes, a significant reduction from the days it previously took. The technology behind "Integrity Check" is a partnership with AI firm Xapien, which specializes in generative AI, natural language processing, and entity resolution. The platform is designed with safeguards to prevent AI "hallucinations" and ensures that all outputs are fully sourced and auditable, providing links back to the original data. This focus on accuracy and transparency is crucial in the high-stakes compliance sector. To govern its use of artificial intelligence, Dow Jones has established a 10-member AI steering committee composed of individuals from its editorial, legal, commercial, and technology departments. The committee meets bi-weekly to review all proposals for using generative AI, ensuring they align with the company's core principles, including the fair compensation for content used to train AI models. Leading these efforts are key executives including Chief Data Officer Anjali Gupta Reddi, who is responsible for the company's data strategy and the implementation of machine learning and applied AI. Additionally, Ingrid Verschuren holds the title of Executive Vice President, Data Intelligence and AI Governance, underscoring the company's focus on the responsible deployment of this technology. News Corp, the parent company of Dow Jones, has a content-licensing partnership with OpenAI.
