HONOR Pushes for Open AI Ecosystem

At MWC 2026, device maker HONOR outlined its strategy for an open AI device ecosystem built around its AI Connect Platform. The company is calling for broad collaboration to create a more unified interface and user experience across different AI-powered devices and services.

The strategy is part of a broader company transformation dubbed the "HONOR ALPHA PLAN," a three-step initiative to evolve from a smartphone maker into a global AI device ecosystem company. HONOR is backing this strategy with a planned investment of over $10 billion over the next five years to foster this open, value-sharing ecosystem with global partners. At the core of the strategy is the upgraded HONOR AI Connect Platform, which opens the company's AI capabilities to all ecosystem partners. The goal is to move beyond simple device connectivity to a state of deeply shared intelligence across different brands and hardware categories, with a projection to integrate over 20,000 AI services by the end of 2026. This open approach contrasts with the historically closed, "walled garden" ecosystems of other major tech players. During the MWC panel, HONOR's President of Products, Fang Fei, emphasized a theme of "breaking walls" and collaborating with partners like Orange to expand into new hardware categories including smart home, education, audio products, and even pets and toys. This ecosystem strategy is not just theoretical; it's manifesting in new hardware. At MWC 2026, HONOR previewed a conceptual "Robot Phone" that integrates motion and spatial awareness, and even unveiled its first humanoid robot aimed at consumer scenarios like shopping assistance and companionship. The company also launched the Magic V6 foldable phone, the MagicPad 4 tablet, and the MagicBook Pro 14 laptop, all designed to work seamlessly within this AI-powered ecosystem. The initiative leverages both on-device and cloud AI, a collaboration that includes partners like Google Cloud and Qualcomm. For example, HONOR's new "AiMAGE" photography brand uses a 1.3 billion-parameter on-device model for image clarity enhancement, while simultaneously leveraging a 12.4 billion-parameter cloud model to improve telephoto quality.
