Plano Snags AT&T Headquarters from Dallas
AT&T is moving its headquarters to Plano from Dallas, reportedly due to concerns about Dallas' governance and urban competitiveness reported.
AT&T's CEO, John Stankey, had raised concerns with Dallas leaders regarding crime, safety, and governance months before the move was announced. Emails show Stankey questioned the "effective/sustained governance" of Dallas as early as May 2025. These concerns seemingly contradict initial statements from Dallas leaders who suggested AT&T primarily desired a horizontal campus. Plano offered AT&T an incentive package worth over $20 million to secure the headquarters. The package includes a $10 million redevelopment grant and a $10 million job creation incentive. There is also a 25-year tax rebate. The new AT&T headquarters will be located on a 54-acre campus at 5400 Legacy Drive in Plano. The site was formerly the headquarters of Electronic Data Systems (EDS). AT&T is planning to invest $1.35 billion in site improvements. AT&T aims to consolidate its Dallas-Fort Worth operations into the new Plano campus. The company plans to begin occupying the new headquarters by the second half of 2028. AT&T is expected to bring approximately 10,000 jobs to Plano.
