TransPerfect Legal and Merlin Search Technologies said Monday they have linked their litigation software so evidence can move through one workflow instead of separate systems. (prnewswire.com) The deal, announced April 13, 2026, puts TransPerfect’s Reef Early Case Assessment technology inside Merlin’s Alchemy Discovery platform. Merlin said it will license Reef Early Case Assessment as the standard processing engine across Alchemy cloud instances. (prnewswire.com) Electronic discovery is the process lawyers use to collect, sort, review, and produce emails, chats, files, and other digital records in lawsuits and investigations. Early case assessment is the front end of that work, where teams quickly surface relevant material to estimate risk, narrow scope, and shape strategy. (exterro.com) TransPerfect says Reef can ingest, cull, analyze, and export large data sets, with capacity of as much as 17 terabytes a day in hosted and on-premises deployments. Merlin says Alchemy adds generative artificial intelligence review on top of that processing layer and keeps the same matter active through productions, depositions, trial preparation, and appeals. (transperfectlegal.com, merlin.tech) The timing matters because legal software vendors have spent the past year pitching fewer handoffs between data processing and document review as corporate data volumes keep growing. Merlin launched Alchemy on March 7, 2025, as the generative artificial intelligence successor to its DiscoveryPartner platform. (merlin.tech, lawsites.com) TransPerfect is already a large player in litigation support, selling electronic discovery, digital forensics, managed review, privacy, and staffing services to legal teams. The company says its legal unit supports lawyers with artificial intelligence, analytics, and multilingual technology across those workflows. (transperfectlegal.com) Merlin has positioned itself as a specialist in document-heavy investigations and discovery, saying its software helps legal teams find answers in large collections faster and at lower cost than traditional review. Its Alchemy product was built for complex criminal matters, multi-defendant civil cases, and joint defense groups working in the same site with separate work product. (merlin.tech, merlin.tech) The practical effect of the partnership is that a law firm or corporate legal department can process data with Reef and review it in Alchemy without moving it into a different platform first. Both companies said the integration is aimed at end-to-end litigation support, with Merlin Chief Executive John Tredennick calling it a way to unite “best-in-class processing” with “next-generation review.” (prnewswire.com)
