Gallatin AI Opens Austin Office for Defense Tech
Defense logistics software company Gallatin AI announced the opening of an engineering and delivery hub in Austin, Texas. The location was chosen for its proximity to Fort Hood and Army sustainment commands. The company plans to hire for software engineering, AI/ML, and delivery roles at the new office.
Gallatin AI emerged from stealth in April 2025 with $15 million in seed funding led by 8VC, a firm with a track record of backing defense unicorns like Palantir, Epirus, and Saronic. The company was incubated in 8VC's "Build" program, signaling strong investor conviction in its approach to a complex defense sector problem. The founding team brings significant experience from top-tier tech and defense organizations. CEO Woody Glier is an alumnus of Palantir and Scale AI, CTO Daniel Buchmueller was a co-founder of Amazon Prime Air, and CPO Brian Ballard has a decade of experience with the Department of Defense. This blend of enterprise AI and deep operational knowledge is central to their mission of modernizing military logistics. Gallatin's flagship platform, Navigator, is engineered to tackle "contested logistics"—scenarios where supply chains are actively targeted and disrupted. The system uses AI for predictive analytics, generating courses of action and running simulations to forecast and optimize the delivery of critical supplies like fuel, parts, and munitions in uncertain environments. This moves military logistics from a reactive to a predictive model, a critical shift for modern conflicts. Technically, Navigator is built with key capabilities on Palantir Foundry, allowing it to integrate with existing Department of Defense data systems like Vantage and Maven. This partnership significantly accelerates development and deployment, enabling Gallatin to bypass common security and compliance hurdles by inheriting Palantir's established architecture. For engineers, this means focusing on ML algorithm innovation rather than building data and security primitives from scratch. Austin's selection as a hub is strategic, placing Gallatin within a dense defense innovation ecosystem. The city is headquarters for the Army Futures Command and hosts a joint innovation workspace at Capital Factory with units like the Army Applications Laboratory, AFWERX (Air Force), and NavalX.
