Chiefs Trade McDuffie to Rams
Chiefs traded CB Trent McDuffie to the Rams in a surprising offseason move, while the Cardinals are reportedly set to release QB Kyler Murray at the start of free agency. Eagles want a 1st and 2nd round pick for AJ Brown, and Aaron Rodgers remains undecided on the Steelers' offer.
The Rams' move for McDuffie involves sending a significant haul to Kansas City: a 2026 first-round pick (No. 29 overall), a fifth and sixth-round pick in the current year's draft, and a third-round selection in 2027. McDuffie, a 2022 first-round pick, was entering the final year of his rookie contract and is now expected to sign a contract extension that could make him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL. Arizona's decision to release Kyler Murray stems from a massive contract that made him untradeable. The Cardinals will absorb a $54.7 million dead cap hit by releasing him. Because of contract offsets, Murray is now likely to sign with a new team for the league minimum salary, with the Cardinals still paying the bulk of the $36.8 million he is guaranteed for 2026. The Eagles are holding firm on a high price for A.J. Brown, reportedly seeking a package similar to the Quinnen Williams trade, which involved a first- and second-round pick. A trade before June 1 would trigger a dead money charge of over $40 million for Philadelphia, complicating the timing of any potential deal. The Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots are considered the leading contenders to land the receiver. Aaron Rodgers, who will be a free agent on March 11, remains noncommittal about playing in the 2026 season. While he has been in communication with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he has stated there is currently no contract offer on the table to consider. The recent hiring of his former Packers coach, Mike McCarthy, by the Steelers adds another layer to his decision-making process.
