Ali Bilal Apologizes to Ryan Terry
Ali Bilal has issued a formal apology for 2025 comments regarding three-time Olympia champion Ryan Terry's retirement. Bilal's earlier statements were perceived as disrespectful and sparked considerable backlash within the bodybuilding community.
The comments from Ali Bilal came ahead of the 2025 Mr. Olympia, where he was the runner-up to Ryan Terry in the Men's Physique division for the second consecutive year. Bilal had stated it would be a "shame" for Terry to place second and that he should have retired after his 2024 win. He confidently asserted that he would be the one to retire the champion. Ryan Terry secured his third consecutive Men's Physique Olympia title in 2025, a victory he referred to as his "legacy prep." This win placed him in an elite group, as only one other athlete, Jeremy Buendia, has won three or more consecutive titles in the division. Terry's first win in 2023 came after eight previous attempts, making his recent dominance a significant storyline. The rivalry between Bilal and Terry has been a focal point in the Men's Physique division. Bilal, despite not winning the Olympia, did take first place at the 2025 Arnold Classic Men's Physique competition. However, that victory was also surrounded by controversy after Bilal announced he would no longer compete in the Arnold Classic due to what he felt were disrespectful comments about the division by Arnold Schwarzenegger. In his apology, Bilal acknowledged the significant impact his words had on Terry. He expressed regret, stating, "I shouldn't have done that, maybe. It can have a huge impact on other people." Despite the apology, some in the bodybuilding community viewed it as backhanded, as he also subtly reinforced the competitive drive behind his initial statements.
