Legora Raises $550M, Eyes Legal AI Consolidation

Legal AI platform Legora raised $550M in Series D at a $5.55B valuation and announced its first acquisition, positioning itself as a consolidator in the legal tech space.

The Series D round was led by Accel, with participation from existing investors Benchmark, Bessemer Venture Partners, General Catalyst, ICONIQ, Redpoint Ventures, and Y Combinator, plus new investors including Alkeon Capital, Bain Capital, Firstmark Capital, Menlo Ventures, Salesforce Ventures, Sands Capital and Starwood Capital. This rapid funding follows a Series C round of $150 million in October 2025, which valued the company at $1.8 billion. Legora is also acquiring Canadian legal-tech startup Walter, a team of nine, to enhance its AI tools and expand into end-to-end legal workflows. Walter's team will be integrated into Legora, with most employees relocating to Stockholm. This acquisition aims to accelerate Legora's push towards more autonomous software and deepen its AI talent pool. The company plans to use the funds to expand across the U.S., opening new offices in Houston and Chicago, in addition to its existing locations in New York and Denver. Legora expects to grow its U.S. employee base to over 300 by the end of 2026. The company's platform is used by "tens of thousands" of legal professionals at over 800 law firms and in-house legal teams across more than 50 markets, including Bird & Bird, Cleary Gottlieb, White & Case, Linklaters, Deloitte, Dentons and Goodwin. CEO Max Junestrand stated that the pace of AI adoption in the U.S. has exceeded expectations, as firms move from experimentation to embedding AI into their workflows. He also noted a demand for firms to become AI native, with attorneys reviewing the work performed by Legora. Some see a trend towards consolidation in the legal tech space, driven by the desire for expanded AI capabilities and simplicity for customers.
