An 18-year-old Elgin driver died April 15 after Rolling Meadows police tried to stop his car and later found it crashed in a stormwater detention area off Industrial Avenue. (patch.com) Rolling Meadows police said the encounter began at about 9:48 p.m. at Rohlwing Road and Euclid Avenue, where an officer saw a westbound vehicle traveling without headlights. The officer made a U-turn and attempted a stop as the car continued north on Rohlwing Road. (patch.com) Police said the vehicle then went east on Industrial Avenue, and the officer lost sight of it. A short time later, the officer heard a loud noise and found the car partially submerged near 3650 Industrial Ave. (abc7chicago.com) Rescue crews pulled the driver from the car and tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Patch identified him as Emilio D. Garcia of Elgin, while other local reports cited the Cook County medical examiner as identifying him as Emilio D. Amaro. (patch.com) (chicago.suntimes.com) That name discrepancy is one reason the case is still unsettled in public records. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said it investigates deaths under its jurisdiction and updates case information as testing and identification are completed. (cookcountyil.gov) The crash also sits in the gray area between a traffic stop and a pursuit. Police have said the officer attempted to stop the car, lost sight of it, and then located the wrecked vehicle moments later in the industrial park. (patch.com) (abc7chicago.com) Daily Herald, cited by the Chicago Sun-Times, reported the crash happened just after 9:45 p.m. in the 3600 block of Industrial Avenue. WGN also reported the officer was in a fully marked police vehicle at the time of the attempted stop. (chicago.suntimes.com) (wgntv.com) As of April 23, authorities had not announced a final cause or manner of death, and local reports said the investigation was continuing. The next public answers are likely to come from the medical examiner’s findings or any additional police release. (patch.com) (cookcountyil.gov)
