Autolane & HEVO Partner on Wireless EV Charging

Autonomous commerce platform Autolane is partnering with HEVO to integrate wireless charging for commercial electric vehicles. The collaboration aims to create a seamless, fully automated charging solution for autonomous delivery fleets and other commercial applications.

Autolane is developing what it calls an "air traffic control layer" for autonomous vehicles, focusing on coordinating curbside pickups, deliveries, and rideshare services for AVs on private properties like retail centers. The Palo Alto-based startup, founded in 2024, has secured $7.4 million in funding from investors including Draper Associates and Hyperplane to build out its infrastructure. HEVO, founded in 2011, has developed a wireless charging system for electric vehicles that includes a power station embedded in the ground, a receiver on the vehicle, and a cloud-synced app for management. The company's technology is designed to be compliant with the SAE J2954 standard for wireless power transfer, ensuring interoperability between different vehicles and charging pads. The partnership aims to create a completely automated process for autonomous commercial vehicles, allowing them to charge wirelessly during their dwell time without any human intervention. Joint commercial trials are set to begin in 2026 to validate the integration of HEVO's "Rezonant" hardware and "Journey" software with Autolane's vehicle orchestration platform. This collaboration is entering a rapidly growing market. The global wireless inductive EV charger market was valued at $84 million in 2024 and is projected to reach $229 million by 2032. For commercial vehicle applications specifically, the market is expected to grow at a compound annual rate of over 40% between 2024 and 2030. Prior to this partnership, HEVO has been working with automaker Stellantis to demonstrate its wireless charging technology on vehicles like the Chrysler Pacifica PHEV. HEVO's system boasts a grid-to-battery efficiency of up to 95%, making it comparable to traditional plug-in charging methods.
