Chelsea's Pedro Neto FA Charge
Chelsea's Pedro Neto has been charged by the FA following his sending off in their 2-1 defeat to Arsenal last weekend. The incident occurred during the second half and could affect Chelsea's squad depth in upcoming fixtures as they push for Champions League qualification.
The FA charge stems from Pedro Neto's conduct after receiving his second yellow card, not the foul itself. It's alleged he failed to leave the pitch promptly and used abusive language towards match officials, including referee Darren England and the fourth official. Neto was shown his first yellow card for dissent after Jurrien Timber's goal and received his second for a cynical foul on Gabriel Martinelli to stop a counter-attack, leaving Chelsea with ten men for the final 20 minutes plus stoppage time. A sending-off for two yellow cards carries an automatic one-match ban. Neto has already served this suspension, sitting out Chelsea's 4-1 victory over Aston Villa on Wednesday night. This new charge from the FA is a separate issue and could result in an extended suspension or a fine if he is found guilty. Neto has until March 9 to formally respond to the allegations. The winger's dismissal was Chelsea's seventh red card in the Premier League this season, prompting manager Liam Rosenior to admit there is a "deep-lying" disciplinary problem at the club. While Neto is currently available for the upcoming FA Cup match against Wrexham, a further ban would see him miss crucial league games against Newcastle and Everton as Chelsea push for a top-four spot. In Neto's absence against Aston Villa, fellow forward João Pedro stepped up, scoring a hat-trick. The squad also includes other attacking options such as Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens, and Alejandro Garnacho.
