Frostpunk is a game about running the last city on Earth during an endless freeze, and 11 bit studios has now decided that kind of stress belongs on a handheld too: the original game is coming to Nintendo Switch. (11bitstudios.com, comicbook.com) That is a bigger shift than it sounds, because Frostpunk started in 2018 as a mouse-and-keyboard city builder where you juggle coal, food, housing, and laws while a giant heat generator keeps everyone alive. 11 bit studios describes it as the “first society survival game,” which is basically a city builder where politics and morality can kill you as fast as the weather. (11bitstudios.com) The series already split into two tracks before this week’s news. The first game is the tight survival story about one city around one generator, while Frostpunk 2 jumps 30 years forward and turns the crisis into a larger political fight between organized factions inside New London. (11bitstudios.com, 11bitstudios.com, store.steampowered.com) So the Switch move is really about the older game, not the sequel. It gives 11 bit studios a way to put the original Frostpunk in front of Nintendo’s audience while Frostpunk 2 keeps expanding on personal computers and current consoles. (comicbook.com, store.steampowered.com) At the same time, 11 bit studios used its April 6, 2026 Frostpunk showcase to push the sequel forward with another paid expansion called Breach of Trust, which is scheduled for June 23, 2026 at $12.99 on Steam. (store.steampowered.com, store.steampowered.com) Breach of Trust leaves New London and moves to New Edinburgh, a city built near a volcano that was destabilized by heavy geothermal use for its generator. Instead of just surviving cold, players have to deal with eruptions, ash, and a new Vote of Trust system that can turn public approval into a direct threat to your rule. (store.steampowered.com) This is the second paid add-on now visible on Frostpunk 2’s Steam page. The first, Fractured Utopias, reworks the Utopia Builder mode with 8 faction-specific “utopias,” more than 100 narrative events, 12 unlocks per faction, and a new map, which tells you the sequel is being built like a long-running strategy platform rather than a one-and-done campaign. (store.steampowered.com, store.steampowered.com) 11 bit studios is also building a third lane for the franchise with Frostpunk 1886, a reimagined version of the original game in Unreal Engine that adds new mechanics, new laws, a new Purpose path, and mod support. The studio says Frostpunk 1886 is set for 2027, with development having started in early 2025. (11bitstudios.com, 11bitstudios.com) Put together, the company is now running Frostpunk in three forms at once: the original game on Switch, Frostpunk 2 as the live sequel getting DLC, and Frostpunk 1886 as the rebuilt version for 2027. For a series that began as one frozen city making impossible choices, that is a pretty aggressive expansion plan. (comicbook.com, store.steampowered.com, 11bitstudios.com)
