TECNO to Unveil New AI-Powered Phones
AI-focused brand TECNO is set to unveil its new flagship CAMON 50 smartphone series at MWC 2026 in Barcelona. The launch will also feature a broader ecosystem of AI-integrated products from the company.
TECNO's CAMON series has historically focused on camera technology, particularly for emerging markets. The line has evolved from improving low-light performance in its early models to incorporating AI-driven features like beautification, scene recognition, and even AI-powered image generation in more recent iterations. The upcoming CAMON 50 series is set to feature flagship Sony camera hardware combined with a dedicated AI computing architecture. Promised features include "Super-Zoom FlashSnap" for high-speed captures with no shutter lag and an "AI Auto Zoom" that intelligently frames subjects. This follows the trend of their previous CAMON 40 series, which introduced AI tools like image extenders and object removal. Parent company Transsion Holdings is a major player in emerging markets, holding over 40% of the African smartphone market in 2024. Brands under Transsion, including TECNO, Itel, and Infinix, have succeeded by tailoring features to local needs, such as optimizing camera software for darker skin tones and including dual SIM slots. Beyond the phone, TECNO is expanding its AI ecosystem to include laptops, AI-enhanced smart wearables, and a cross-device solution called OneLeap. At MWC 2026, the company is also announcing a partnership with Tonino Lamborghini for a co-created product lineup, including a gaming mini-PC and a limited edition POVA smartphone. This focus on a "Practical AI" framework aims to enhance productivity and creativity through localized applications. In 2025, TECNO's AI assistant, Ella, processed over 500 million user requests, with more than half in non-English languages, highlighting the company's investment in cultural and linguistic adaptation for its target markets.
