London University Expands Online Learning
Goldsmiths, University of London, has partnered with education services provider Risepoint to expand access to its online learning programs. The collaboration aims to offer more flexible educational opportunities to a global student body.
- The new online programs include a Foundation in Computer Science, two Master of Science degrees in Artificial Intelligence, a Master of Arts in Children's Literature, and a Master of Arts/Science in Psychology. - The MA in Children's Literature will be led by Professor Michael Rosen, a former British Children's Laureate (2007-2009) and the author of over 200 books, including the world-famous "We're Going on a Bear Hunt". - Teaching for these new online courses is set to begin in the summer of 2026, with flexible entry points designed to accommodate students with work, family, or other commitments. - This partnership aligns with a broader trend in UK higher education, where there were approximately 170,000 online postgraduate taught students in the 2021-22 academic year, a number that has grown by over 50,000 since 2017-18. - Over 60% of UK universities that have added more than 1,000 online students in the last seven years have done so through partnerships with Online Program Management (OPM) companies like Risepoint. - Risepoint partners with over 100 universities, primarily regional institutions in the U.S. and globally, to expand access to online education for working adults. For example, their partnership with Southeastern Oklahoma State University supports over 3,000 graduate students. - Goldsmiths is a public research university that is part of the University of London and is ranked in the 501-510 range globally in the QS World University Rankings 2024, with strong performance in subjects like Art & Design and Communication & Media Studies.
