Peruvian Brothers to Open New Restaurant Location
The popular Peruvian Brothers brand is expanding with a new restaurant location. Signage for the new eatery has appeared in a building that has been vacant for eight years, signaling the imminent opening of the new venue.
- The new restaurant will be located at 660 N Capitol St. NW, occupying a ground-floor space that has remained vacant since the building's completion over eight years ago. - Peruvian Brothers was founded by siblings Mario and Giuseppe Lanzone, who moved to the U.S. from Peru in 1997. The venture began with a single food truck in 2013, aiming to bring the authentic flavors of their childhood to the Washington D.C. area. - Prior to his career in the food industry, co-founder Giuseppe Lanzone was a two-time Olympic rower for Team USA and coached rowing at Georgetown University. He manages the business and marketing aspects, while his brother Mario leads the culinary side. - The business has grown significantly from its start, now operating four food trucks, a large-scale catering service, and several physical locations, including outposts at La Cosecha Latin market and Amazon's HQ2. - The Lanzone brothers have received official recognition from the Peruvian government, being named "Marca PerĂº Ambassadors" and "Gastro-Diplomats" for their work in promoting Peruvian cuisine and culture. - The menu is centered around "Comida Criolla," a style of Peruvian cuisine with influences from Andean, Spanish, African, and Asian cooking. Signature dishes are based on family recipes. - To finance their expansion, the brothers initially used their personal savings and later secured loans from community development financial institutions (CDFIs) aimed at supporting minority-owned businesses.
