TikTok Shop expands commerce
TikTok Shop now represents roughly 2% of transactions in the Spanish market cited and supports more than 12,000 active businesses, according to reporting on platform adoption. The platform is also rolling out 'buy now, pay later' loan options in some markets—reports describe loans up to 30,000 pesos inside TikTok Shop in Mexico. (lavozdegalicia.es) (elfinanciero.com.mx)
TikTok is turning more of its video app into a checkout counter, with in-app shopping gaining share in Spain and new credit offers appearing in Mexico. (lavozdegalicia.es) La Voz de Galicia reported on April 11 that TikTok Shop now accounts for about 2 percent of the transactions in the Spanish market it cited, and that more than 12,000 Spanish businesses are active on the platform. TikTok said in October 2025 that its first year in Spain had passed the 12,000-store mark. (lavozdegalicia.es) (newsroom.tiktok.com) In Mexico, reports published between April 6 and April 11 said some users are being offered “TikTok Pay Later,” a buy now, pay later product inside TikTok Shop with credit lines of up to 30,000 pesos. Multiple outlets said the product lets shoppers split purchases into installments inside the app. (elfinanciero.com.mx) (milenio.com) (informador.mx) TikTok Shop works by letting people buy products from videos, livestreams, and a dedicated shop tab without leaving the app. TikTok calls that model “discovery e-commerce,” where entertainment, creator promotion, and checkout happen in one place. (newsroom.tiktok.com 1) (newsroom.tiktok.com 2) That setup has been expanding quickly in Europe. TikTok launched Shop in Spain and Ireland in December 2024, then added France, Germany, and Italy on March 31, 2025. (newsroom.tiktok.com 1) (newsroom.tiktok.com 2) Spain gives TikTok a large audience to convert into buyers. TikTok said in September 2025 that 23.4 million people in Spain use the app each month, up from the 21.9 million monthly active users it cited around the Shop rollout. (newsroom.tiktok.com 1) (newsroom.tiktok.com 2) Mexico is also a newer market for TikTok’s commerce push. TikTok launched Shop there in February 2025 and said in November 2025 that the service had posted record results during Buen Fin, Mexico’s annual discount event. (newsroom.tiktok.com) (newsroom.tiktok.com) The credit layer adds a second business on top of shopping: financing the purchase. Reports in Mexico said eligibility and credit limits depend on the user’s profile, and some outlets said the installment plans can run as long as 12 months. (elfinanciero.com.mx) (dedinero.com.mx) (elautomata.mx) TikTok has not, in the sources reviewed here, published a broad official announcement for a Mexico credit launch matching those reports. But the direction is clear: the company is pushing deeper into the part of online retail where watching, buying, and now borrowing can happen on the same screen.
