Salumeria Rosi Opens on Avenue B

The Northern Italian restaurant and salumeria, Salumeria Rosi, has opened the doors to its second NYC location at 222 Avenue B. The new spot is located in the East Village, between East 13th and 14th streets.

The original Salumeria Rosi first opened on the Upper West Side in 2008, a venture from acclaimed chef Cesare Casella. Casella, known for the sprig of rosemary always in his jacket pocket, had previously earned a Michelin star at his family's trattoria in Italy before making a name for himself in New York with restaurants like Beppe and Maremma. The Amsterdam Avenue location quickly became a neighborhood staple, praised for its authentic salumi and Tuscan small plates. The New York Times designated it a Critic's Pick, and its intimate 35-seat dining room, designed by Oscar-winning set designer Dante Ferretti, features a unique plaster-cast map of Italy on the ceiling. While Casella sold his stake in the restaurants in 2015, the new East Village outpost is now under the ownership of Andrew Loscalzo, who also designed the new space. The menu will feature beloved classics from the uptown location alongside new additions exclusive to Avenue B, such as the Crochette di Prosciutto. The new location takes over the space formerly occupied by The Roost, a coffee bar and speakeasy that closed in the spring of 2024. A key difference at the East Village Salumeria Rosi is the addition of a café, which opens daily at 8 a.m. serving Italian coffees and pastries like cornetti and sfogliatelle.
