Chelsea have sacked Liam Rosenior after less than four months in charge, ending a spell that began with a six-year contract in January. (chelseafc.com, espn.com) Chelsea said on April 22 that it had “parted company” with Rosenior, who joined on January 6 after Enzo Maresca left on New Year’s Day. Chelsea’s official staff profile says Rosenior signed through 2032. (chelseafc.com, chelseafc.com, skysports.com) Calum McFarlane has been put in charge until the end of the season. Chelsea’s website lists him as interim head coach after his move up from the Under-21s setup. (chelseafc.com, skysports.com) The dismissal followed a sharp collapse in results. Sky Sports reported Chelsea lost seven of their last eight league matches, and the 3-0 defeat at Brighton left them with five straight Premier League losses without scoring. (skysports.com, nytimes.com) Chelsea’s own homepage showed the team eighth in the table on 48 points after 34 matches on April 23. The club also has an F.A. Cup semifinal against Leeds next, which compressed the timetable for a change. (chelseafc.com, sports.yahoo.com) The churn has become part of the story at Stamford Bridge. Sky Sports’ Gary Neville said Chelsea’s owners had sacked five permanent managers in less than four years since taking over the club. (skysports.com) That turnover is also visible in the squad. Enzo Fernández arrived from Benfica in February 2023, and Rosenior was already the latest coach to work with the Argentina midfielder during that span. (apnews.com, chelseafc.com) The next debate has started immediately because Chelsea moved just as the season enters its final stretch. When Maresca left in January, reports linked names including Francesco Farioli, Oliver Glasner, Cesc Fàbregas, Andoni Iraola and Roberto De Zerbi before Chelsea chose Rosenior instead. (espn.com, skysports.com) For now, Chelsea have turned back to an interim solution. Rosenior arrived on January 6 with talk of a long project, and he left on April 22 with the club still searching for a permanent direction. (chelseafc.com, chelseafc.com)
