Hope's Mountain Bike Trail Near Complete

A new mountain bike trail in Hope, BC is 95% complete and set for a spring 2026 opening. The project by First Journey Trails focuses on sustainability and community engagement, offering technical riding and scenic views to boost local recreation and tourism.

- The trail, named "First Blood," is a nod to the 1982 Rambo movie of the same name, which was filmed in Hope. This branding helps tie the new recreational asset to the town's existing tourism identity. - With a construction cost of $416,450, the project was funded in part by two grants from the province's Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program totaling $485,065. The development was a partnership between the tourism agency AdvantageHOPE and the Fraser Valley Mountain Bikers Association. - The five-kilometer, hand-built trail is rated as a black diamond for advanced riders and is designed as a shuttle-only descent, a rarity for new trail networks. It features a significant 1,000-meter vertical drop. - Construction, which took 21 weeks, was considered uniquely challenging due to the steep and slick hillside terrain. The lead builder, Thomas Schoen of First Journey Trails, described it as the toughest project his company has ever undertaken. - The trail was intentionally designed to be technical and challenging, moving away from the more common machine-built "flow trails." This unique style is intended to attract experienced mountain bikers from across the province seeking a different kind of riding experience. - The project is the first official mountain bike trail in the Hope Community Forest and is a key part of a larger strategy to establish Hope as a significant mountain biking destination, filling a gap in the region's trail map.
