Fremont's FOG Holi Festival Kicks Off Today
Fremont's signature Festival of Colors, FOG Holi 2026, is taking place today, March 7, at Washington High School. The family-friendly event celebrates the start of spring with vibrant colors, live music, dancing, and food stalls, running from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The ancient Hindu festival of Holi marks the arrival of spring and celebrates the victory of good over evil. Its origins are tied to the legend of Prahlad, who was saved from a fire by his devotion, signifying that truth and goodness will always prevail. Beyond the triumph of good, the festival also commemorates the divine love between the deities Radha and Krishna. For many, Holi is an occasion to reset and renew relationships, end conflicts, and start fresh for the new season. The celebration is organized by the Festival of Globe (FOG) in partnership with the Federation of Indo-Americans of Northern California (FIA). Established in 1983, the FIA is one of the largest non-profit umbrella organizations representing the Indian diaspora on the West Coast. Fremont's significant Indo-American population makes it a natural hub for such a large-scale cultural event. According to recent census data, nearly one-third of Fremont's residents are of Indian descent, one of the highest concentrations in the nation. This year's festival will also feature a "Colors of India" segment, with more than 50 non-profit organizations showcasing cultural performances from various states across India. To ensure safety, the organizers provide biodegradable, skin-friendly, and organic powders for the celebration.
