Bungie cancels *Marathon* GDC panels

Bungie canceled two *Marathon* panels at GDC 2026, sparking worries about the live-service extraction shooter's development [https://x.com/Pirat_Nation/status/2031839186085408888].

The Game Developers Conference (GDC) website listed two *Marathon* talks, "Marathon: Reinventing a Bungie Classic" and "Marathon's PvP Multiplayer: Fostering Community Through Competition," but these have now been removed. No reason for the cancellation has been given. Bungie's *Marathon* is a reboot of their 1994 sci-fi first-person shooter, but reimagined as a player-vs-player extraction shooter. The game was announced in May 2023, but has no firm release date. Bungie has faced significant headwinds, including layoffs in October 2023 and underperformance from *Destiny 2: Lightfall*. Sony, which acquired Bungie in 2022, has also expressed disappointment with the studio's progress.
