Megan Thee Stallion Joins Broadway
Megan Thee Stallion will make her Broadway debut in "Moulin Rouge!" bringing major crossover appeal to the long-running musical. The casting represents one of the most notable pop culture crossovers on Broadway this year and is expected to draw new audiences to the production.
Megan Thee Stallion will make history as the first female-identifying performer to play the role of Zidler, the impresario of the titular nightclub, in any production of "Moulin Rouge! The Musical" worldwide. She is scheduled for a limited eight-week engagement at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre from March 24 to May 17, 2026. The three-time Grammy winner is stepping into a role originated on Broadway by Tony Award winner Danny Burstein. Her run comes in the final months of the celebrated musical, which is set to close its Broadway engagement in July 2026 after a seven-year run. "Moulin Rouge! The Musical" has been a Broadway powerhouse since it opened in 2019. An adaptation of Baz Luhrmann's 2001 film, the stage production was nominated for 14 Tony Awards and won 10, including Best Musical. This casting is not Megan Thee Stallion's first foray into acting. She has previously appeared in the A24 movie "Dicks: The Musical," the Starz series "P-Valley," and made guest appearances on shows like "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law" and "Good Girls." The trend of casting major celebrities is a significant draw for Broadway, helping to bring in new audiences and boost ticket sales, especially in the post-pandemic era. Stars like Daniel Radcliffe, Sarah Paulson, and George Clooney have all recently taken to the Broadway stage. The show's score, already a mash-up of popular music, will reportedly include "a hint of music from her own iconic catalogue" during her run. Megan Thee Stallion will succeed Bob the Drag Queen in the role of Zidler.
