Olivia Rodrigo's GUTS Gets Raves
Olivia Rodrigo's sophomore album *GUTS* is earning critical acclaim for its artistic growth and raw authenticity, with one prominent critic giving it a "light to decent 8/10." Critics praise standout tracks like "vampire," "bad idea right," and "making the bed" — the latter resonating for its exploration of self-sabotage and personal growth. The album is being hailed as "impeccable from start to finish" and an improvement over *SOUR* on all fronts.
Released on September 8, 2023, *GUTS* debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, moving 302,000 album-equivalent units in its first week in the US. The album secured the top spot on charts in 15 countries, including the UK, where it outsold the rest of the top 10 combined in its first week. Rodrigo continued her collaboration with producer and multi-instrumentalist Dan Nigro, who also helmed her debut album *SOUR*. The album was partially recorded at the iconic Electric Lady Studios in New York City and leans into a more pop-punk and rock-oriented sound than its predecessor. Upon its release, all 12 tracks from the standard edition of *GUTS* entered the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The lead single, "vampire," debuted at number one, making Rodrigo the first artist ever to have the lead singles from their first two albums debut at the top of the Hot 100. The album earned significant award recognition, including a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year, Rodrigo's second in that category. *GUTS* also won Album of the Year at the 2024 People's Choice Awards and Pop Album of the Year at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards. To support the album, Rodrigo embarked on the *GUTS* World Tour, her first-ever arena tour, which began on February 23, 2024. The tour has grossed over $184 million and features a rotating lineup of acclaimed supporting acts, including The Breeders, Chappell Roan, PinkPantheress, and Remi Wolf. A deluxe version of the album, titled *GUTS (spilled)*, was released on March 22, 2024. This edition includes five additional songs, including the lead single "obsessed" and four tracks previously released on a limited-edition vinyl.
