KAWS 30‑year retrospective

SFMOMA is mounting a 30‑year retrospective of KAWS that gathers more than 100 works across painting, sculpture and installations — framed as a major survey of the street artist’s career. The show is being billed as one of the season’s big commercial‑meets‑street art moments. (mymodernmet.com)

KAWS: FAMILY is on view at SFMOMA from November 15, 2025, through May 3, 2026. (sfmoma.org) The exhibition was organized by the Art Gallery of Ontario and the SFMOMA presentation is guest-curated by Julian Cox for AGO with Daryl McCurdy and William Hernandez Luege leading the museum’s installation. (sfmoma.org) SFMOMA installs the show as a series of related “families” across Floor 4 and anchors the presentation with FAMILY (2021), a larger-than-life bronze grouping of COMPANION, BFF, and CHUM. (sfmoma.org) A nearly 36-foot-tall inflatable COMPANION will occupy SFMOMA’s rooftop as part of KAWS’s international HOLIDAY project; the San Francisco appearance is listed as the project’s 14th stop and the HOLIDAY installations have reached more than 20 million people to date. (sfmoma.org) The SFMOMA presentation follows the exhibition’s launch at the Art Gallery of Ontario and a U.S. stop at Crystal Bridges, which hosted KAWS: FAMILY in March–July 2025 under AGO’s original curatorial framework. (ago.ca) SFMOMA names the Phyllis C. Wattis Fund for Traveling Exhibitions as lead support for the presentation and offered a spring ticket discount—full museum access for $25 between March 2 and April 17 ($27 on weekends)—with free entry for members.
