Cadillac Makes F1 Debut

Cadillac officially debuted in Formula 1 at the Australian Grand Prix as part of TWG Motorsports — marking the first time an American manufacturer has entered F1 in decades. Sergio Perez is behind the wheel for this "long-shot American dream" attempting to challenge European dominance of the sport.

The journey to the grid was a multi-year saga, initially launched by Andretti Global. After Formula 1 Management rejected that initial bid in January 2024, the project was restructured under new ownership, ultimately gaining official approval to join the championship in March 2025. TWG Motorsports, the entity behind the team, is a division of the holding company TWG Global. This parent company boasts a significant sports portfolio that includes ownership stakes in the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chelsea Football Club, and the Los Angeles Lakers. Joining veteran driver Sergio Pérez is Finland's Valtteri Bottas, a 10-time Grand Prix winner. The duo brings a combined total of over 500 Grand Prix starts to the new constructor, providing a crucial foundation of experience. While the team will initially use Ferrari power units, parent company General Motors is registered to become a full engine manufacturer starting in the 2029 season. This positions the team to eventually become a true "works team," designing and building both its chassis and engine. The team operates from multiple bases, with a European headquarters near the Silverstone circuit in England and a brand-new facility being built in Fishers, Indiana. Additional facilities are located in North Carolina and Michigan, establishing a significant American operational footprint. As a nod to American F1 history, the team's debut car is named the MAC-26. The name is a tribute to Mario Andretti, who in 1978 became the last American driver to win the Formula 1 World Championship. Cadillac is the first entirely new constructor to enter Formula 1 since Haas F1 Team debuted in 2016. The team's entry brings the grid to 11 teams for the first time in a decade.
