TECNO Unveils AI-Powered Phones
At MWC 2026 in Barcelona, tech brand TECNO is set to unveil its new flagship CAMON 50 smartphone series. The launch will also feature a broader AI product ecosystem, signaling the company's focus on integrating artificial intelligence across its devices. The event positions TECNO as a key player in the race to embed AI into consumer electronics.
TECNO's CAMON line, first launched in 2015, has long been the brand's camera-centric series, evolving from a budget-friendly phone with a focus on low-light performance to a more premium offering. Prior models like the CAMON 18 Premier introduced features such as a 120Hz AMOLED display and a periscope telephoto lens with 60X digital zoom. The company's focus on artificial intelligence isn't new; it established a "Practical AI" framework in 2024 to develop features for emerging markets. This push includes their proprietary AI assistant "Ella," which has been upgraded using Google's Gemini, and a joint AI laboratory with chip manufacturer MediaTek established in September 2024. At MWC 2026, TECNO revealed that it processed over 500 million user requests in 2025, with around 100 million being image-processing tasks. More than half of all these interactions were in non-English languages, leading to a focus on localization, including support for Hausa and improved recognition for African-accented English and French. The new CAMON 50 series advances TECNO's imaging capabilities by pairing Sony hardware with a dedicated AI computing architecture. This enables features like "Super-Zoom FlashSnap" for high-speed captures without shutter lag and "AI Auto Zoom" for intelligent subject framing. This move places TECNO in direct competition with dominant players in the AI smartphone market like Apple, Samsung, and Google. These companies have been leveraging AI for enhanced camera performance, battery management, and features like Google's "Magic Editor" and Samsung's Bixby assistant. Beyond smartphones, the MWC announcement also included a strategic partnership with Tonino Lamborghini. The collaboration will produce a co-created lineup including a gaming mini-PC and a limited edition POVA Metal smartphone, fusing TECNO's technology with the iconic design language of the Italian brand.
