NFL Combine Records Shattered
Tight end Eli Stowers set a new vertical leap record for the position at the NFL Combine. Lorenzo Styles Jr. led the field with a blazing 4.27-second 40-yard dash, while Oregon's Sadiq also stood out. Penn State's track team set two facility records and a meet record at the B1G Indoor Championships.
Vanderbilt's Eli Stowers didn't just set a new vertical leap record for tight ends; he shattered it with a 45.5-inch jump, a mark that is also the third-highest among all positions since 1999. He also set a new combine record for tight ends in the broad jump with an 11-foot-3 leap, breaking a record that had stood since 2017. Lorenzo Styles Jr.'s 4.27-second 40-yard dash was not only the fastest at this year's combine but also the fastest ever by a safety since at least 2003 and the fastest time ever recorded by an Ohio State player. This performance was particularly crucial for Styles, who was not widely projected to be drafted but has now significantly improved his prospects. Oregon's Kenyon Sadiq also made history, becoming the first tight end ever to run a sub-4.4 second 40-yard dash with a time of 4.39 seconds. This broke the previous record of 4.40 seconds held by Vernon Davis since 2006. Sadiq also impressed with a 43.5-inch vertical and an 11-foot-1 broad jump. The Styles family had a notable combine, as Lorenzo's younger brother, Sonny Styles, a linebacker from Ohio State, also performed well, tying for the fastest 40-yard dash among linebackers at 4.46 seconds. At the B1G Indoor Championships, Penn State's Hayley Kitching set a new meet record in the women's 800m with a time of 2:03.19 in the trials, a record she then broke again in the final. On the men's side, Ajani Dwyer set a new facility record in the 60m with a time of 6.55 seconds, and Allon Clay established a new facility record in the 800m at 1:46.31. The Penn State men's track and field team ultimately secured a second-place finish at the championships, their highest since 2017, scoring a program-record 96 points. The Nittany Lions' men's 800m runners dominated, with Handal Roban, Allon Clay, and Niko Schultz sweeping the top three spots in the final.
