New Guide to Free March Family Activities

For families planning ahead, Marin Mommies has released a list of 20 free things to do with kids in the Bay Area for the month of March. The guide includes ideas for parks, museums, and potential u-pick farm visits, offering a resource for budget-friendly weekend planning.

Several Bay Area museums offer regularly scheduled free admission days, which can be a boon for budget-conscious families. For instance, the Asian Art Museum is free on the first Sunday of each month, and the Museum of the African Diaspora opens its doors for free on the second Saturday of every month. Additionally, Bay Area residents can enjoy free entry to the de Young Museum and Legion of Honor every Saturday. For those living in or near San Francisco, several institutions offer free admission on specific days in March. The Conservatory of Flowers is free on the first Tuesday of the month, while the San Francisco Botanical Garden offers free admission on the second Tuesday. San Francisco residents with proof of residency can also visit the SF Zoo for free on certain Wednesdays. Fremont and the surrounding East Bay also provide free cultural and community activities. In Fremont's historic Niles District, a free, all-ages game night is scheduled for Friday, March 6th. For those interested in celebrating the festival of colors, the FOG Holi celebration will take place at Washington High School in Fremont on Saturday, March 7th, with free admission for children under four. While many u-pick berry farms don't open their seasons until April or later, March is an excellent time to plan for these outings. Citrus fruits like lemons and mandarins are in season in the Bay Area during March. Families can look forward to strawberry picking starting in April at farms like Blue House Farm in San Gregorio and various locations in Brentwood.
